Amendment of EA: Change of a section of the phase 2 approved potable water pipeline route between Sonskynvallei and Brandwacht, Mossel Bay

HilLand Environmental, independent Environmental Assessment Practitioners (EAPs), have been appointed by Mossel Bay Municipality, to ensure compliance with the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA, No. 107 of 1998, as amended) and Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (2014, as amended).

The Environmental Authorisation (EA) for the potable pipeline route between Sonskynvallei and Brandwacth was issued by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (DEA&DP) in August 2023 (16/3/3/1/D6/29/0002/23). A section of the phase 2 pipeline has already been installed, and in order to complete the project, the Mossel Bay Municipality now requires an amendment to the EA to change a short section of the route.  The pipeline will no longer follow the main road and will now divert.

The new preferred route will pass through an open field, connect to an existing steel pipe attached to the Brandwag River bridge, and continue within the road reserve across several properties in Brandwacht to the Phase 2 pipeline connection point.
