Proposed Riverbank Protection Silverstreams Estate

HilLand Environmental have been appointed as the Environmental Assessment Practitioners (EAP) by the applicant, Silver Streams Estate (PTY) Ltd, represented by Albert Boni, to ensure compliance with the regulations contained in the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA Act No. 107 of 1998) and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations for the river bank maintenance at Silver Streams Estate in Plettenberg Bay (Please see attached Locality Map).

The project entails the replacement of the existing Creosote timber pole river bank retaining wall. This will be done as part of maintenance procedures only when the existing structure is in need of repair.  The construction involves using sand bags filled with sediment from the river and from the existing bank and covering these bags with a reno-mattress and then re-vegetating the surface.  The angle of the new retainer will not be vertical as the current poles are but will slope up at an angle from the toe to the top of the river bank. The proposal also includes the addition of 6 narrow floating jetties to the existing mooring poles currently found in the Keurbooms Estuary next to the estate.  Timber walkways will link the top of the retained bank and existing stairs to the floating jetties and allow access to the boats without having to walk up and down the reno-mattress bank which will be revegetated.

The Draft Basic Assessment Report is available for comment from the 11th of June 2018 .  Please provide us with your comments/concerns relating to the proposed activity during the time frame (11 June 2018 – 12 July 2018) in written format via post, email or fax.  Please note that you need to declare your interest in the above matter.
