Maintenance Management Plan (MMP):

THE REHABILITATION OF SWART RIVER DAM ACCESS ROAD, PHASE 2 (SITE 82)

HilLand Environmental (Pty) Ltd, independent Environmental Assessment Practitioners (EAPs), have been appointed by the EAS Infrastructure Engineers as the consulting engineers representing George Municipality, to produce an Maintenance Management Plan (MMP) for rehabilitation of the Swart River Dam Access Road, Site 82 identified in the Project 28(4) in George Municipal area.  This will ensure compliance with the regulations contained in the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA, No. 107 of 1998, as amended) and Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014 (as amended).

The existing access road to the Swart River Dam has been repaired and upgraded to the point indicated on the above plan as Phase 1. Phase 2 begins at chainage 0 and extends as far as the original turning circle at chainage 960.

Chainage 0 – 685m fall within portion 1 of 382 which falls within the competency of DEADP in terms of NEMA, while chainage 685m to 960m falls within the competency of DFFE (National Environmental Affairs) as farm 128 is a Protect Area and World Heritage Site.

This Maintenance Management Plan will remain in effect (once approved by DEADP and/ DFFE) for the rehabilitation and continued maintenance of municipal access along the Swart River Dam Access Road (phase 2).

The comment period on this MMP has ended.
