Proposed Sand Mine on Portion 3 of Farm No. 249, Klipfontein
Due to unforeseen technical issues, the NEMA application – WC30/5/1/3/3/2(10321)MP – lapsed and the application has been withdrawn. A new mine permit application, reference number WC30/5/1/3/2/10327MP, has been submitted (18 August 2023) for the same applicant and the same proposed mine area for environmental authorisation.
HilLand Environmental, independent Environmental Assessment Practitioners (EAP) have been appointed by the Applicant, Muller Feeds (Pty) Ltd, to ensure compliance with the regulations contained in the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA, No 107 of 1998), the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014 (as amended) and the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (Act 28 of 2002) for the proposed sand mine on a portion of Portion 3 of the Farm Klipfontein, No. 249.
A 4.88ha area is proposed to be mined of sand. The mining area will be divided into 5 equivalently sized blocks that will be mined consecutively and rehabilitated before proceeding to the next block. Sand will be minded as per demand and no stockpiling of the resource will occur on site. The boundary of the mining area is to be demarcated with wooden droppers.
The Final Basic Assessment Report (BAR) and Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) have been submitted to the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (competent authority) for decision making on the 2nd of November 2023.
