The proposed jetties on the Goukou River at RE/26/480 & RE/541, Still Bay

HilLand Environmental have been appointed as the Environmental Assessment Practitioners (EAP) by the applicant, Casa Lugia (Pty) Ltd represented Mr Stefan Antoni, to ensure compliance with regulations contained in the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA Act No. 107 of 1998, as amended) and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (2014, as amended).

The proposal entails the construction of two (2) jetties on the Goukou River at the Remainder of Portion 26 of Farm 480 and Remainder of Farm 541, Still Bay (locally known as SP18 and GK45).

The proposed jetties will be constructed using wood on floating barrels with similar proportions which is in line with the design that is already used at several neighbouring properties along the Goukou River.

Access to the jetty will be done through a walkway that will be raised slightly off the ground for small rodents to move beneath the structure and allow riparian vegetation to also grow underneath. Slats will be generously spaces for the same reason. The walkway will extend through the reeds beyond which no mowing or cutting of reeds will be permitted.

Excavation will be limited to the planting of a few poles through the use of an auger or hammering of the pole into the soil.

The jetties will only be used for access to the river by foot and using a canoe or small boat. No motorised or equipment access will be used.

The final Basic Assessment Report (BAR) has been submitted to DFFE for their decision-making process.
