24G Application: Dagbreek Eiers

HilLand Environmental (Pty) Ltd have been appointed as the independent environmental assessment practitioners (EAP) by the Applicant, Dagbeek Eiers (Pty) Ltd represented by Johan van der Schyff, to ensure compliance with the regulations contained in the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA, No. 107 of 1998) and Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014, as amended.

Portion 25 of Farm 347 (here after referred to as ‘the property’) is an existing egg production farm located approximately 32km north of Humansdorp of the R330 (Kouga Municipality). The agricultural zoned property is approximately 18ha in extend.

Environmental Authorisation (EA) was granted in 2005 for the construction of four (4) egg laying facilities on the property. Due to an increase in demand for egg production, the landowner added a further four (4) egg laying facilities in 2012 and a further three (3) in 2017 on the property, without realizing that this constituted “expansion” in terms of NEMA and should first have been authorised.

To rectify and retain the egg-laying facilities on the property, a Section 24G Application is required to allow the landowner to rectify and retain the facilities, and to be issued with the required Environmental Authorisation (EA).

In addition to the expansion of the existing facility to the current 11 laying sheds, the owners would like to add an additional 3 sheds, to keep up with the market demand of egg supply – total facility for 14 laying sheds.

The final Section 24G application has been submitted to the Department and Environmental Authorisation (EA) is pending.
